⚠️🥵 Heat Advisory from 11am Sunday to 5pm Tuesday 🥵⚠️
Our first heat wave of the summer is here! It's only a few days, and it's not too extreme...though it will get hot.
Quick breakdown of the temps I'm expecting for the Plateau, then I'll get into a little more detail:
- Friday: mid- to upper-70s, overnight lows in the low-50s
- Saturday: mid-80s, overnight lows in the mid-50s
- Sunday: mid- to upper-80s to near-90º, overnight lows in the low-60s
- Monday: upper-80s to low-90s, overnight lows in the low-60s (warmest day and overnight)
- Tuesday: upper-70s, overnight lows in the mid-50s
Today (Friday) should be quite pleasant! Things continue ratcheting up from here. Monday looks to be the peak of this heat wave, with temps in the low-90s. Tuesday begins the cooldown, before we get back closer to normal on Wednesday and Thursday.
A couple other notes worth mentioning:
Generally speaking, the overnight temps should bring some relief, and a chance for us to open windows and cool things down. However, Sunday and Monday nights will stay relatively warm, only dropping to the low-60s by the early morning hours.
For those of you who are a little more sensitive to moisture levels in the air, it might feel on the border of "comfortable" and "slightly sticky". It's not going to be like those humid heat waves we've had in past years, but it's not going to be Nevada or Arizona-levels of dry air either!
I'll end with some safety tips:
- The UV index is expected to be high the next few days, so make sure to wear (and re-apply) sunscreen if you're outside!
- Also, stay hydrated - heat stroke can occur even in warm temps, and especially in high temps.
- On the flip-side, area lakes and rivers are still relatively cold - make sure you've got life jackets and are with other people if you're out on the water.
- And please avoid taking pets for walks in the peak heat of the day - they can suffer heat stroke more easily, since they don't sweat like humans. If you can't hold the back of your hand to the pavement for 5-7 seconds, it's too hot for pets' paws!
